The abstract:
State-of-the-art AI algorithms, e.g. for breast cancer, need to be able to work on a single-cell level, so pathologists can easily check and review which cells have been identified as tumor cells and how they have been classified. In order to be usable by many laboratories out-of-the box, the AI algorithms need to be robust against image variability seen in real life due to variation in sample preparation, staining and scanning. The largest productivity gains for such algorithms can be experienced by the users through deep integration into the digital workflow platform (IMS, image management system), so that the user can stay in the platform’s viewer and where image pre-calculation in the background is possible. For exactly this reason our AI tools are already integrated into a large and growing number of IMS (e.g. Gestalt, Sectra, Paige, SIM and many more). Our AI tools are now even available fully automated as “0-Click-Solution” for WSIs (whole slide images) where you already have the complete results presented to you without any time delay when you first open the image: With an image pre-calculation directly after scanning, the tissue is found and segmented (selecting only tumorous areas), tumor cells are identified (ignoring other cells e.g. stroma) and classified (positive and negative) so that hotspots for diagnosis are directly displayed with a clinical score (and quantification of cells per classes).
