Introduction: Aesthetic demands are becoming increasingly common in our daily practice. Indeed, a large proportion of the population considers dental and smile harmony to be a crucial element in social and relational life. Faced with this demand, practitioners need to be able to propose appropriate therapies. In a case study, we performed an injected composite restoration on a patient with severe fluorosis.
Methods: This was a 37-year-old patient who came to the clinic for aesthetic reasons. He presented with DEAN stage 5 fluorosis. Following an interview with the patient, the composite restoration project was validated. Impressions and a series of photographs were taken. The patient underwent 15 days of outpatient brightening, followed by a mock-up based on a wax-up and a laboratory key. Finally, 75%-filled flowable composite was injected into each tooth after fitting the clear silicone key.
Conclusion: adhesive techniques offer a minimally mutilating solution that meets patients’ aesthetic requirements. Moreover, the main role of the dental surgeon is to provide the patient with an aesthetic and functional therapeutic solution, while preserving dental tissue as far as possible, in line with the principles of biomimicry and therapeutic gradient.
